In response to the October 7 attack, Israel’s Defense Minister said, “We are fighting human animals.” This statement sums up the ideology of radical Zionism, which not only expropriates Palestinian land but also denies Palestinians’ their very humanity and seeks to erase the cultural achievements that prove their historical existence in the land of Palestine. The Gaza Strip has been repeatedly destroyed—not only its economic and social infrastructure but also its cultural infrastructure—by a long-term occupation policy. Despite such circumstances, the art did not go out in Gaza. Especially since the Gaza blockade was intensified in 2007, there has been a global focus on the agency of young people who use social media to connect with the outside world and to express the uniqueness and power of their street culture. Of all these Palestinian youths’ cultural genres, the author has been particularly interested in rap music. Rap music can be seen as an especially important means for young people to challenge harsh realities while utilizing limited resources. In this chapter, the author will focus on rap music in Gaza, touching on the real experiences and thoughts of Gaza youth and considering the resilience of Palestinian culture.
