Biography
USA. Doctor in Anthropology by University of Texas, he has also realized studies on music. Nowadays, he teaches in the Department of Folklore and Ethnomusicology of the University of Indiana. He has been editor of the Journal of Folklore Research (1986-1992) and later, he has worked in the Special Publications of the Folklore Institute (1990-1995). In 2000, he published a CD called Corridos of the Costa Chica. One year later, he did the same with the video Christ's Passion: Easter Passion Play in Treinta, Guerrero with Patricia Glushko. Among his last books, we can mention Dancing the Ancestors: Carnival in South America (2001). Anyway, during all his career he has also written numerous articles in magazines and newspapers. In 1994, he got the John Simon Guggenheim Fellow for his book Poetry and Violence on Mexico's Costa Chica. More recently he has been awarded with the Humanities National Endowment for the Humanities thanks to his work Tales On-Line: An Electronic Database of Folk Narrative. He is a member of the American Association of Anthropology and of the Society of Ethnomusicology.
