The article focuses on the laments derived from two language groups in Papua New Guinea. These two groups are the Duna of the Southern Highlands Province or Hela region and the Awiakay, a small community which consists of 300 people living in Kanjimei village. It cites examples of how people are lamenting for people's death and for dog's death, who are in some Papua New Guinean cultures such as the Awiakay viewed as their owners' extensions.
