Made a doctor of Basque studies for her thesis Emakumeen Hitzak Euskaraz: Basque Women Writers of the 20th Century (1996) and specialized on language and literature. She has worked at the Basque Studies Center (University of Nevada, Reno) since 1981. She is the co-author of the Euskara-Ingelesa Ingelesa-Euskara Hiztegia and has translated various books with Basque themes such as Improvisational Poetry from the Basque Country and The Basque Poetic Tradition, by Gorka Aulestia; Korrika: Basque Ritual for Ethnic Identity, by Teresa del Valle; A View from the Witch's Cave: Folktales of the Pyrenees, by José Miguel de Barandiarán; Txan Fantasma and Errusika, by Mariasun Landa. Her articles about Basque literature and culture have been published in magazines, books and even in the British Encyclopaedia. She is a Basque language lecturer at the University of Nevada and has published four elementary Basque courses for English speakers. Currently, together with Mari Jose Olaizegi, she is the co-director of the new series of Basque literature that has been translated into English.
